§ 16-6. School crossing guards—Appointment; function; training.

  • The chief of police is hereby authorized and directed to appoint special officers, to be known as civilian crossing guards, in such numbers as such chief may deem necessary, to regulate traffic in designated school zones during such hours as the chief may deem appropriate, to aid school children in crossing streets. The civilian crossing guards shall be trained in and shall use standard police signals and gestures to direct traffic in the vicinity of the school zones.
